You want to turn the ship around?

Rather than selling consultations, we manage the return on the money you spend on maintenance — and plough the savings back into the course.

Sports turf maintenance is one of the largest operating costs of any golf course or sports complex — yet it is often run on inertia: tradition, habit and reaction to problems. Our role is to turn maintenance from an expense into a managed investment with measurable effect.

Most golf courses and sports facilities already have experienced people who understand their site. Our role is not to replace them, undermine their authority or impose a completely new way of working. We provide an independent second set of eyes.

By reviewing maintenance programmes, practical decisions, purchasing, workflows and resource allocation, we help owners and general managers understand where the operation is performing well, where unnecessary costs may exist and where available resources could deliver more value.

We act as a bridge between ownership and the turf management team — translating technical decisions into their operational and financial impact, while turning business objectives into practical solutions that can be implemented on the ground.

The aim is not simply to reduce spending. It is to improve how the maintenance budget is used — optimisation combined with the best maintenance practices — without compromising turf quality, operational standards or the people whose experience keeps the facility running.

The savings are reinvested into the facility — funding upgrades that let the course or sports surface improve continuously with the resources already available, and make the project stand out in the industry.

Where budgets leak — the four mistakes we find at almost every venue

None of this is how we work — it is what an audit uncovers. These habits quietly drain more maintenance budget than any single line item:

Mistimed operations

The costly habit"We always do it at this time" — regardless of what the surface actually needs.

Spending without evidence

The costly habitInvesting in a product or technology with no baseline to compare against.

Reactive rather than proactive

The costly habitActing only after a problem appears.

Budgets without priorities

The costly habitSpend justified by tradition rather than by return.

What we do instead — maintenance run as a managed investment

The first instrument is still the hand — every surface judged up close.
01

Measurability and control

Decisions based on data and analysis, not subjective judgement. Baselines first, so every intervention can prove its effect.

02

Timing optimisation

The same operation can have double the effect at the right moment — and almost none at the wrong one.

03

Prioritisation by return

Focus on the interventions that reduce future costs and risks, not the ones that merely look busy.

  • Stable, predictable playability
  • Lower long-term maintenance cost
  • Protection of the infrastructure investment
  • Improved player safety, reduced injury risk
  • Higher asset value of the facility
3–6 months

Diagnostics and rapid optimisation — find the leaks, fix the timing, set the baselines.

6–12 months

Structural improvement — programmes, budgets and team practices rebuilt around measurable return.

12–36 months

Long-term transformation — a surface, a team and a budget that perform predictably, season after season.

An international expert network

No one knows everything — and we don't claim to. On complex or specialised cases we work in partnership with established specialists across Europe and the USA: leading university and research groups, internationally recognised sports-surface experts, and best practice exchanged with top golf courses and sports venues. An extra layer of assurance behind every strategic decision.

We review. We translate. We optimise. Your team remains at the centre of the operation.

Services

A second set of eyes across the whole operation.

We translate turf management into business decisions — and business objectives into practical turf solutions. Fully independent: no product commissions, no supplier bias, clear written recommendations your team can act on.

Independent operational review

An objective review of current maintenance practices, programmes, workflows and operational decision-making.

Maintenance programme & decision audit

Review of agronomic programmes and key practical choices to confirm what is working, identify avoidable risk and propose realistic improvements.

Budget & purchasing analysis

Evaluation of where the maintenance budget is being spent, whether purchases provide appropriate value and where costs may be optimised without compromising results.

Resource optimisation

Practical recommendations for achieving a higher maintenance standard through better use of the existing team, equipment, products, time and budget.

Support for owners & turf managers

Clear communication between ownership expectations and the technical realities of turf maintenance, with solutions that both sides can understand and implement.

Improvement & reinvestment planning

Prioritised recommendations showing which changes can deliver immediate value and how future savings can be reinvested into facility upgrades.

Who we work with

Your people. Your experience. Your resources.

We work with owners, general managers and facility operators of golf courses, sports complexes and natural turf facilities who already have an established maintenance team, but want an independent review of how the operation is performing. The objective is not to replace experienced staff — it is to support better decisions, strengthen communication and identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and long-term value.

Golf

Member-owned & resort clubs

Independent second opinions, budget justification and long-term agronomic masterplans you can defend to members and owners.

Tournament

Elite-performance venues

Event preparation and conditioning programmes that peak on the right week, to professional tour standards.

Football

Professional & semi-pro clubs

Pitch audits, recovery planning and hybrid advisory for stadiums, training grounds and academies.

Prestige

Estates, hotels & landscapes

Turf and soil health programmes where presentation and visual quality carry the brand.

The ideal client profile

A facility that values its existing people, wants to validate current decisions, needs clearer visibility over maintenance spending, and is open to practical improvements that can raise standards without unnecessary disruption.

Why Turf Vision

Independent — and on your team's side.

Independent, but not adversarial

An external perspective without internal politics, blame or predetermined conclusions.

Supportive, not disruptive

Recommendations designed to strengthen the existing team rather than work against it.

Technical & commercial understanding

Turf decisions assessed not only agronomically, but also through their financial and operational impact.

Optimisation without compromise

Better use of budgets and resources without defaulting to staff reductions or lower maintenance standards.

Practical solutions

Recommendations adapted to the facility's real conditions, objectives, people, equipment and operational capacity.

Educated where golf began

HNC in Golf Course Maintenance from Elmwood College in St Andrews, Scotland, and turf management studies at the University of Guelph, Canada — irrigation, course design & construction, soil science. Plus a Bachelor's degree in Economics — a key foundation for understanding the business behind the turf.

Trusted by the profession

More than a decade as Chairman of the Bulgarian Golf Greenkeepers Association and board member of FEGGA, the European federation — up to date with the industry via BIGGA, GIS and FEGGA events.

ROI, not activity

Maintenance managed as an investment, not a cost centre: decisions based on data and measurable effect — never on tradition, habit or supplier interest.

Track record

Twenty years, hands on.

Not a career of advising from a distance — a career of running the surfaces myself, under budgets, weather and expectations.

About

Yavor Atanasov

I have spent more than twenty years with my hands in turf — starting as a seasonal greenkeeper on a mountain course in Vail, Colorado, and finishing thirteen years as superintendent of Bulgaria's Peter Harradine championship course at Pravets, before founding Turf Vision to advise clubs, venues and estates independently.

Alongside the day job I have spent over a decade as Chairman of the Bulgarian Golf Greenkeepers Association and serve on the board of FEGGA, the European federation — which keeps me connected to the people and science shaping this profession, from Harrogate to the US Golf Industry Show, every single year.

What I bring to your venue is not theory. It is two decades of managing turf under pressure — budgets, staff, tournaments, weather — and an honest, independent opinion, even when it is not the one you were hoping to hear.

An additional Bachelor's degree in Economics strengthens the support I provide through cost-benefit analysis, data-driven risk management and resource allocation — because this work is not only about keeping the grass healthy, but about protecting the health of the operation behind it.
